Archaeology at Mortimer Quarry

Several possible areas of archaeological interest have been identified at Mortimer Quarry and, using suitably experienced archaeologists, these will be investigated after tree felling and before mineral extraction in those areas.

Additional work will be done on the gravels themselves by the same archaeological team as the site progresses.

Other sites and discoveries

Hills provides significant resources toward identification, excavation, recording and reporting of the archaeology and geology in the areas where we have sand and gravel quarries.

This work relies heavily on close working partnerships with local planning authorities, academic entities and community interest groups. The co-operation provided by Hills to these partners has been acknowledged as ‘crucial to the success of a project’ – something which Hills is extremely proud of and keen to maintain.
